Hi all Folks!
As the title says, i'm hosting a
subdivision modelling challenge and i will give as prize a copy of Dead Space 2 (Origin Digital Download version).
The challenge is pretty simple, you just need to model something like the below image, but with 6 holes, easy, isn't it?.
What you must show:
- A Image with the model with wireframes viewed from different angles. The mesh must be one single piece, no floats.
- And another image showing the grey model as shown with different angles aswell.
As tip, it's recommended to start with a cylinder of 6 sides.
I will choose the winner from all the entries
. The deadline will be february 22th, so there's almost 2 weeks.
EDIT: The winner --> Prehistor

are you like paying for someone to create that thing for you or what is this?
That was to dam simple not to understand
It's just a way to make ppl to improve their modelling skills (subdivision modelling).
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but just want more clarification before I start. :P
now tell me whats that for, im confused
edit: starting with 6 sided zylinder is a pain in the ass, i recomend a 18 side hemisphere
Where does it say this?
It has 6 holes and its similar..
"The challenge is pretty simple, you just need to model something like the below image, but with 6 holes, easy, isn't it?."
Something like the image below
But with Six Holes
wut?
So yea, I think he is doing it right.
Why didn't he post that here i wonder...
I didn't say he was doing it wrong it was directed at his question
The topic is kinda misleading without that info
little rectangles at bottom kept giving me pinching and stretching and I didn't want to adjust my topology for the top part.
So floaters. Fuck the police.
Remember that you must avoid artifacts in the mesh, and that if you want a good result, you will need more geo.
Here you can find useful help to avoid artifacts in the mesh smoothing. Remember that pentagons and tris can be useful sometimes. You can translate the page with google but with all the images, i think you'll understand all these tips.

"Surely some will think this is to eat coconut, but the truth is that this is technical."
I love you, google translate.
Yep, the cleaner the better. The mesh has to be balanced in detail. Something like this:
Look carefully the use of pentagons. They will make your work cleaner and better.
is that.... what i think it is?
oh my.
needs more spec... pinching is very hard to see without spec.
only for the modeling practice
started with a 72 sided cylinder
Well this was pretty fun, I didn't get all of the proportions exactly right and there are some errors. A fun way to spend the lunch break at least
Here are my images.
Oh well fuck what's the point in doing it now if Pedro enters :poly118:
Don't worry, he won't do LOL
Did you see the time he wrote that? If you can't do this simple model in less 1 hour, there's nothing to be done here lol. Maybe it's a so difficult model to do :S
I'm assuming almost all people have the game pirated/original :P, so i may understand the huge lack of interest.
BTW, by now, only one participant did the model well, without artifacts and with a good presentation. If things does not change, we already have a winner

If not, still a SubD God.

I didn't quite capture the bulbous'ness of your original shape. But with some more tweaking I could have gotten it there. That was a crazy shape to model. To much vert tweaking.
If I missed a view, please let me know!
Thank you again Alberto for the idea of making this subdchallenge to encourage people to practise a bit. Hope there are more challenges to come!
edit: I copy the image links just in case:
sometimes you gotta
another thing that i see is the use of 5 sided polygons, is that 100% right ? it depends or what ?... sorry for my ignorance :S
You didn't put as much box shapes, but it's not something to be worried of.
