This will be my journey on trying to learn 3Ds Max, having already 3 years of experience in Maya...I have found it so far probably the most annoying change in programs - from navigation to customization...
Here is my 1st issue that came up
- When trying to create a primitive - in Maya you just click on it and it appears at the origin 0 0 0 ...so I figured I'd do a keyboard entry - I tried to give it a 1x1 unit - which in theory is supposed to be the size of 1 grid unit...
-Why is it so small?
I changed it to inches and back again it always comes out the same way...
So Then I made a 10x10...and tried to apply an image to it and the UVS double in size with the primitive...wth? I checked the UVS and it goes outside of 0/1 space...by 10...So I increased the size in the coordinates in the material editor to the same size as the plane...
are all these things normal?
in Maya no matter what size you make your primitive - your UVS stay the same...in the 0/1 space...
is there a work around? where you create a plane and the UVS don't change depending on the size of the plane?

also about the navigation, there is a add-on called "switcher" by digital raster than get you maya style alt+mouse nav and changes selctions to be like maya.
other stuff you'll probably enjoy includes..
rightclick will drop/cancel whatever you're doing
the right click menu is context sensitive and includes things that are useful based on what mode and tool you're using - it also changes with modifier keys (eg shift/alt)
to repeat a command rightclick and click the coloured square in the corner of the quad menu that the command is listed in.
1 thing though after I installed Switcher - to mimic Maya - the SHIFT + Drag extrude function doesn't work...Anyone know how to remap that in the customize UI? what is it called?
If not, I'm pretty sure someone who uses it will know better.
shift+mmb drag.
or you could set a toggle key to turn switcher off for a second while you do that.
also some of maxes grahptite tools use alt+lmb which orbit overrides in switcher, you also have to use mmb for.
havent used max in a long time though been pretty much all on maya and modo now.
