New Car model I'm doing for practice (if it's good enough at the end it may be a portfolio piece, but for now its just practice)

Not sure If I will create a high poly and bake normals to a low poly, or if I will only create the low poly.

i suggest doing a high and low - because a nice detailed car model looks sick and shows off nicely in any portfolio plus i found my first high poly car to be a huge help in learning new tricks to modeling, a lot more problems came up and therefore i had to learn more : )

after that you can make a low poly and display both of them in your portfolio. food for thought

fixed the shape of the front bumper, started working on the hood. moving on to the doors next

I think most high end racing games don't use normal maps on the main body of the cars and just do it all with vert detail so if you wanted to go down that route it would be fine.

sorry for the noob quetsion but... vert detail? what's that? does that just mean creating the detail using the texture maps? or is that something different?

Most "car" games do not use normal maps for cars.

Yeah that's what I meant! Just model all the details. Having said that obviously for things like tyres a normal map would be needed.
