Marking menus have increased the speed of my workflow in Maya...but Max doesn't seem to have them...they are the same company...why not have a few of the same features...Does anyone know if there is a way to have it so that you press a button and where-ever your cursor is a custom menu would pop up with the tools you most often use?

hmm awesome - thank you very much Rens - I'll have to look into it...this is probably the biggest reason that I'm not using 3ds max for modeling...

max has the quad menus, personally i don't think there as good as marking menus, but there better than nothing.

also a little tip most people don't seem to know, if you click the little blue box in the quad menus header it will activate the last used command in that menu.

This could be slightly off topic, but since you started by saying how marking menus increased the speed of your workflow:

I'd suggest personalizing your own set of hotkeys. Analyze what you use most often and then go to town.
In my opinion you can be very unsentimental and just toss hotkeys you don't use and replace them or even move them around.
There's also an awesome script called Magic Hotkey (by miauu I think) which is context sensitive which helps cut down on the number of hotkeys you have to use.

I use a wacom tablet to model everything - and marking menus make it easy - lets say I need to extrude I just hold A and pen flick up...If I need an edge loop in the center of an object I hold A and pen flick down...All my modeling tools are on 2 hotkeys....If I need to create a cube I hold Z and penflick down...I need a sphere I hold Z and penflick up...It is quick and efficient...This way youa re not bogged down by having too many hotkeys and then having to figure out what each one does...I will check out Magic Hotkey though...

I use a stylus to model as well and have most of my commonly used functions mapped to hotkeys .. This way I simply map the same functions on box max, maya, topogun, etc. This makes it real easy to jump from one application to another.

Since you're modeling with a wacom, why not use the radial menu? I set up mine with the shortcuts I need most often in 3ds max and it works like a charm.

    Cheers!

Yeah the radial menu might be good for ya. I do everything with the wacom as well, but I usually just use the quad menu. One hand on the keyboard, one holding the stylus. Quick to all my shortcuts.
