I know its not the same gun model as yours but i think it shows the specular the metal has, which your model lacks a bit. I think the wood looks fine for now though.
i dont think you should have normal for the metal detail (or atleast it looks like you have it that way) Have more of the metal detail in the specular map.
modeling is good, the wood looks decent, but the metal is not reading very well.
remove the surface detail from the metals normalmap and olny use the normal map for edges and things like the ridges.
for good metal you really got to push the specular map, really push your edge damage and scratches in the specular map, and try putting in local detail, like dirt and grim and finger prints in the spec where the user hands would be on the gun. and the addition of a gloss map too would really help you sell both the metal and the wood, since they 2 materials would have very different glass values.

The wood should be very high gloss and the metal low gloss, yes? I'm setting about doing all the things you mentioned here and will have something to show in a few minutes.
More better? Ignoring the seam issue near the front of the barrel, and that screw on the side panel needs a better normal map. I just wanted to post this while I fix them.

Thanks! Those references will work great! Putting engravings and the like totally slipped my mind.
