That's right. It most certainly is a bold move but I decided to provide a free edition of Quick Save Maps to the community. It includes all core functionality and is completely free to use for non-commercial projects.
I really hope you guys appreciate it and that I am not stepping on anyone's foot here. I am also excited to hear any suggestions for the tool and what you think could be added / improved or even removed.
More info and download!
Cheers!

Thank you Felix.
Are you honestly complaining about the FREE version of a $10 app? Need more features, fork over the $10!
Definitely a quality quick save script, checked out the free version and decided to purchase a single license.
I have a question however pertaining to the Custom Path section of the settings.
I noticed a checkbox for "Relative to PSD" Is there a way to automatically save out one folder up relative to the location of the PSD file?
Thanks for deciding to purchase a license. To answer your question: In order to save your maps one folder up from the PSD, tick "relative to PSD" and use the path "../". Enjoy
Like say I make a group called Diffuse. Then inside I make group A, group B, etc, and then have it spit out DiffuseA.tga, DiffuseB.tga, etc.
Excellent, thanks!
In order to achieve this you would actually need to add two distinct maps. This is fairly straight forward. Just make a "DiffuseA"- and a "DiffuseB"-map and change the convention to include the A and B manually. You can also layer-group the according layersets for easier overview.
If you do not want to sync up multiple maps through the UI, it is very easy to do a quick manual copy and paste in the configuration file itself. The config file is an easy to read and understand XML file, located in your appdata directory. You can quickly find where that is by hitting the "import" or "export" button.
It was a question you cranky person. Didnt find anywere were it said it exported to PSD in the full version.
I know there is not much left to reduce on a ten dollar app, but the global game jam is more than reason enough to lower the price even further until monday the 30st. Until then, the single license version sells at only 7.49 USD.
To activate the discount, simply type gamejam in the discount field. I hope you have a good and faster game jam with Quick Save Maps

By the way, where do you save the path data? Environment variable into Windows? Psd file? or did you create a kind of database into the Photoshop's folder tree?
Good tool so far! keep it up! ^__^!!
All the settings for quick save maps are stored in a clear text file in XML format in the appdata dir. Does that answer your question?
One more feature very requested by Photoshop users is an autoBackup tool.
With the possibility to set a time delay for each new backup increment and some smooth autosave too. Everything should be transparent for the user.
There was some discussion about it last year, I am sure it could give you a bunch of ideas!

Try to commit your "Quick Save Maps" tool here, I am sure a few artist will be interested! o_<

Also thanks for the unity forum suggestion, might be a good idea to post it over there as well. At the moment I almost exclusively posted on polycount.
Haven't tried it though
edit:
There is actually more than that already out there. Here another one:

I am sure there is even more and maybe even a free one somewhere
Mind if I ask where is the Donate Button Dustin was talking about? Can't seem to see it?
Cheers in advance!
Was really helpful stuff to review while building my own scripts.
Anyway if you are keen, there is always my PayPal account (Felix Schlitter @gmail.com). I wouldn't say no.
Ingesting vimrc btw. Looks somewhat similar to mine. You should try airline over powerline, I found it much more pleasant. Cool idea for the syntastic utf8 symbols. Also great idea with vimya!
Sent you a mail via the contact on the QSM page, but I'll mention it here as well.
The mxp files don't work with photoshop CC they have changed to zxp files.
And thanks for writing such clean code, too - it was very easy to add in the option for TIFF as an additional format choice.
Can we get an updated link?
looks like it changed his site with out changing it here.
Stromberg, subsequent releases will be in zxp then.
Farfarer, sounds cool. Do you want to submit a pr? I was actually almost frightened getting back into my own code tbh. Could certainly do with a good refactor. But don't fix it if it ain't broke. Would be interested in having a look at your code though.
And thanks passerby again for your generous gift. It's really appreciated.
After Photoshop CS5, the extension format is now .ZXP.
Is there any chance you would be able to update this? I'm really looking forward to trying it out.
Isaiah, here is it packed up with zxp for now:
latest (untested) version using zxp
Also is there a way to only save an alpha channel if you have one present? Otherwise it won't save out alpha?]
Otherwise great tool!
Uggh folders? I might as well read a book. Booooring. Just joking. Thanks Dustin. That makes sense.
So do you need multiple hotkeys for that or does QSM detect if you have that Alpha or not?
It is exactly what I needed.
I got it so it attaches the alpha channel to the diffuse, while the other two maps remain 24-bit alpha-free.
Thank you!!!
Perfect tool. Working in Photoshop CC with no hitches.
Thanks for your hard work. This is the best texture saving script out there!
