Every intous i've had has lasted a VERY long time, I wouldn't be worried about a used one and I would look at the intuos 3's as well, you might find a great bargain on a used 3.
Nah, you could get it for maybe 345 or 340, but honestly, that's not worth the risk for something as valuable as this. Just get it at newegg. Or via eBay, of course, but don't try any weird sites over a 2-3% discount.
I second looking at intous 3, you really don't need all the gadgets they keep adding to the side of these (at least, I always turn them off as I accidentally trigger them)
I've been using an intuos 3 (wide, 6x11") since 2007 and I'm not replacing that anytime soon. The mouse started malfunctioning a year and half ago until it totally broke down (I loved that thing), other than that, it's great!
for what it's worth i would look into an older model. the intuos 4 i have at work has worn worse in four months than any earlier model i've ever used for several years each.
I use the medium intuos 3 at work but have the medium 4 at home. Personally I prefer the 4 because it has more tooth to it. The surface of the 3 is way too slick especially after I've been using mine.
if you end up buying a used intuos on ebay, make sure it's tablet AND pen included (some people sell just the tablet for cheap - it's useless without $ 60+ pen; also, intuos 3 and 4 pens are not interchangeable.)

Yeah, I'll be looking around on Ebay and such.. Figured I'd at least reach out to the community first. ^^
