Looks like they get to be repositioned within Ubisoft, or is that PR bullcrap? It still sucks to have to pack up like that and leave your home, but perhaps that might soften the blow a bit.
I feel all PR says that when they are apart of a large company. But, if other studios of theirs are hiring, they`ll probably have an advantage over random applicants.

They said the same thing when layoffs hit Red Storm. What it meant then was that they allow you to apply to the limited positions available at any Ubi studio. Sort of an "inside track" application process. All other rules apply, however. You don't just magically get a job at another Ubi studio.
Brutal, vancouver is just getting tossed about latley sad to hear, and then there is montreal where you hear about a major new studio opening every 6 months haha. sheeeit might be time to move.
Not really sure if Vancouver will rebound any time soon. The government gave up on the games industry, and removed all subsidies (they gave it to film).
If anything Toronto is going to be the "New Montreal".
I left years ago knowing this day was coming. The most talented artist I've ever met worked there and I learned a massive amount from him. I'm thankful for that learning experience.

It seems that Vancouver is only good for film. I feel the game industry here will keep falling, and the film industry will grow here. I wish it was the other way around though Heres to hoping that it does rebound! Good luck to everyone scrambling to find work..
This shit makes me sad and depressed. So the PR says they cant get repositioned within Ubisoft buuuut that's just sugar coating it. What about all the doods with families etc. The guys that just moved there to start that new sweet gig (there's always a few) spending lots of dough in the process. They can't just up and leave like that.
And how many of the new people will have a shot when it comes down to it? Most spots these days are for the senior / more experienced people. I doubt there's a ton of positions open anyway so only a handful will get a shot at landing a new job within UBI. Especially if you consider the less experienced people having to fight against the senior people.
I dunno. Maybe I'm just bitter and overly negative but I feel for these guys having been laid off myself so don't take my ramblings to seriously.
Sucks to see another company go under in my home city, but yah, I don't think it's going to rebound anytime soon either.
Montreal, come for the employment, stay for the poutine
Sounds like a good idea right about now.... I hear people are much more friendly there too- Over Vancouverites. Plus its probably a lot cheaper living/housing.

also isn't digital extremes on the other side of the country?

I wish anyone affected a quick recovery.
Nothing but bad news these days...
