Successful/appealing characters

I'm doing soldier characters for my FYP at Stafford university. Part of this is finding out what makes a certain soldier character work as a character people can admire, want to play and really see as a hero sort of thing.

So I have started this poll just to get some extra data on what polycount demographics see as a good existing character. I have just selected 2 characters from 3 major military games, one being a supporting character and another being the playable character.

Feel free to post and explain your own favourite soldier game characters if they are not in the poll.

A successful character is dependent on how you want the player to relate to their avatar and what traits they will anthropomorphize into it. Is the game story driven with a linear plot? Then you need a fully developed character with believable traits and motives. If the player is meant to craft their own story through game play, then you need to present them with a character that they can project their own ego and id into. This applies to all types of characters. You might want to check out the book [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Master-Characters-Victoria-Lynn-Schmidt/dp/1582970696"]45 Master characters[/ame]. It details the 16 major archetypes in character development. Each type has a good and bad side.

If you do check the book, I suggest you read the Ares and Artemis Archetypes. They are warriors and would fit well into a soldier roll.

Make sure the soldier has massive exposed breasts though, with tape on the nipples. And a nice ass. That seems to be the norm in game art.

I also found the dude who does the voice for Captain Price did a film with the guy who does the voice for Gaz

Maybe the Blackburn model if it just wasn't cutscenes. Otherwise I do not think COD or Battlefield represent the best character work seen on this forum.

Ahh I love Opposing force. It has to be my favourite of all the half life related games. Apart from the sewers infested with Voltigore :poly122:
