In Max I want only one object to be viewed with its wireframe. But I dont want to have it see through so clicking the "WIRE" option in the material I apply to it is not the solution I am going for. I would like the object to have a solid color with its wireframe over that. This is not for rendering purposes either, I need it to work in the view port. Someone suggested the Lattice modifier but I couldn't get anything working like they suggested. Isn't there a simple way to make a layered material in Max. For example the base layer is Blue and the second layer is a black wireframe. Thanks guys

one way you could do it:
create an instance of your object, give it a black texture set to 'WIRE' and put a push modifier onto the instance
Create a clone of your mesh.
Apply a push modifier with a small value.
Place a wireframe material with 100% self-illumination on the pushed model.
I wish there was a render with wireframe overlay option in render settings, but I've yet to discover it. This is my work around.
