!Title should read CANT not can! oops
I was having problems painting textures on a low poly model in mudbox.
Seems to be an issue with non planar faces will only get half painted if your brush size is too small.
Now the only solution I've got is to do a poly cleanup in maya to rid the non planar faces by triangulating them or just triangulate the whole mesh.
This solves the problem but was wondering if there is another way around it. (as in keep it all quads. though i suppose i could quadrangulate in maya after painting)
Some other things i found is -
It'll paint the texture fine if i flatten the mesh to UV space to paint on.
Also subDing the mesh smooths it and gets rid of non planar faces.
As for the reason for having so many non planar faces is because its a retopo mesh from Topogun.
Anyone else experienced this? or have another work around? or is my workflow just wrong? :P

triangulate -> import / export -> de-triangulate.
if you want to paint on the base mesh with no smoothing.
you could also try to increase the brush sampling area in the mudbox prefs...
but this will slowdown mud...
I tried changing the brush sampling area but it didn't make a difference.
I think I'll either subdivide to paint or triangulate
