First post here so, hello everyone. Heard this is a very helpful place. Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but anyway.
I would like to think I am a pretty good artist. Pretty good at little characters and creatures. I would love to be in the game development section for my job or someplace like Pixar. However, I have no idea where to start. I have a tablet, and thats about it. I want to make a small game eventually, but what is your guy's advice for where to start. I see these pretty amazing characters on here in 3d, but I have no idea what program you guys are using. Any guideline of where i should start and how i should advance to eventually make a game? I would also like to learn how to program, basically all the traits that you need for making a game. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

you might want to concentrate your efforts on one thing at a time, learning 3D basics first for example, and maybe programming later if you ever get to it, but theise are two different jobs all together. So if you are more of an artsy person, i would stick to 3D!
You will also want to look up the 3D program you would like to learn on, they all have the same principles, so once you know one, it gets easier to learn the others, but you have to start somewhere! I personally use 3Ds max and i find it super! it has its limits like any other program, but its the one i learned on, and i find it very user friendly.
Lastly, if you aren't going to fallow classes (at school, or on the internet) i would highly recommend finding tutorials or buying books. It can really be bothersome being stuck technically when you are doing something artistic, it can really break you flow and discourage you. So having a good guide is essential.
Hope this helps! And i cant wait to see what you'll be creating in the future!
It's common belief that once you learn one package, you've learned them all.

For learning 3dsmax the best help I've seen are the tutorials that are included (Main Menu > Help > Tutorials) and for more button/tool specific explanations the 3dsmax help file (F1) is really good. I know in other apps most of the tutorials and help files are garbage but they put a ton of work into the 3dsmax files. They are what I used to learn it.
The graphite modeling tools also have some pretty good fly out help that links to more help and sometimes even videos.
Buying training DVDs/ books might not be necessary but they're there if you ever wanted to go that route as well.
+1 for this. Also, you can subscribe to digital tutors who have really good focused training in practically all technical aspects of max, as well as the creative development series for improving your art.
