Hi,
So I've decided that I'm sick that my traditional 2d and painting skills have always been lacking behind and want to improve on it more than anything else at the moment.
I'm not particularly great, but hopefully i'll learn a lot as we go. This thread should also encourage me to push out more as well.
After I finished my Luigi model I got started on more paintings, I've only done these 2 so far.
I have a lot to improve on but I feel I've already made some nice progress from where I stood before.
If anyone has any tips i'd love to hear them. I've always been very demotivated by my 2d stuff in the past but damn it it's time to push this.
More shit dumped here soon.

Figure a bit of sculpting thrown in would help a lot too.
Here's a w.i.p sculpt of a guy, needs a lot of work, may turn it into some nord / monk character,
edit:
removed, felt too shit about it
i think the belley button is too low, a quick head check puts the belley button about 3/4th a head below where it should be.
the reason i noticed it is because it seemed odd to have the belley button no located in that cranny between the bottom two abdominal segments
I Agree with Kelli about the specularity and material deffinition.
started this other the weekend, definitely gonna finish it with colour, having lot's of fun with it. Inspired heavily by laurel Austin's Dragon paintings.

thumbnail'd
I have a lot to work on, and I want to re do a lot of the shoulder, breast and arm/leg areas but I thought I'd at least post something to cool down for a bit.
Seeing forward to your next update! Dragon looks cool.
started a bit of quick color and detailed the head a bit to get into the mood, I will redo alot of the body.
@ gillmeister74
I've just done a bit more to it and cleaned it up, was a bit horrid looking back at it. I will post an update when it gets turned into something interesting.
edit:
ok, LAST time I change my avatar... This is what happens when I enjoy a bit of 2d, I get all giddy like a schoolgirl.
Ah jeez it's 3:30 AM and I have work tomorrow, and I'm here changing avatars and uploading pictures of dragons. What went wrong?
Loved the bird on the first post. The dragon is kickass too.
I know you're just getting started, but breaking some of the mountain underneath his claws would help illustrate how heavy and powerful he is or perhaps he's more graceful than that and you should ignore my advice :P
Nice colour work though! Very subtle
Update:
@ PogoP,
Thanks for the crit, I agree as well, the head was a bit too busy, I've cleaned it up a bit in this last update, but I'm going to go back to it as I move forward.
@ Sayanora
Yeah, I'll get around to something, although I'll probably keep the rock fairly simple, thanks!
How long have you been drawing for? I'd love to pick up more traditional 2d stuff to compliment my 3d and would love to know your history with drawing, as I'm sure many others would too.
Calling this done so I can move onto something else:
EDIT: after some great feeback from a couple guys at work I made a pretty massive change to fix a perspective issue and a bunch of other stuff:
I'm happy with how it turned out and gained a bit more confidence. I can already see the mistakes but have learnt from every one.
@ PogoP
Honestly I don't really know, I haven't always been any good with my 2d work, even in the recent past. Now I'm actually making some progress.
Compared to most people here, I guess I don't draw very often, mostly due to how long it can take me sometimes, and I can get easily frustrated at early stages. I've found that for myself, I have learnt a lot through painted textures for diffuse-only models as it's a bit less stressful at times. Only recently I have started to make a real push to get by 2d work up to par. Still got a way to go but it's less stressful now.
Gonna do some photo studies next, should be interesting.
Seeing forward to the studies. I think that could push your work a LOT in terms
of material deffinition.
Now do it!
Did this one today
Don't really like how this turned out..
Will do some life stuff next
Post some of your 3d stuff! I want to see!
