The rifle itself is extremely blocky, but that's not what you should be concerned about right now. I know it's just a concept piece... But, please tell me you are actually using references...
The shapes don't line up at all.
The trigger is mounted on the stock of the rifle?
There is a gaping hole in the middle that is serving no purpose?
The scope is smaller where one would normally look through?
The grip is really long.
The main barrel should be attached to the actual body of the gun not on top of it.
What is the purpose of the 2nd barrel on the bottom? Nothing can really shoot out of it because about 3 inches to the left of it is a gaping hole. Is it grabbing bullets from the air inside that gaping hole?
Please go look up how a gun actually works and functions and take all of those things into consideration. Nothing about your rifle makes any sense whatsoever. And please work from references of actual guns.
I'm sorry for being so blunt. It would hurt you far worse if I didn't say anything at all though. I'm just trying to help.
Thanks a lot for the critic, i will take that into consideration, i was thinking about what to take away from the concept, thanks for pointing those out. i'll fix it in the final version of the gun. what i wanted was to have it on a robot i'm building, and use it as a robotic gun.
I agree with Tobo, the rifle has some very odd shapes and things that make it unrealistic. Do you have any experience modeling rifles?
If not I suggest you try making a real one from reference first, you could even do a couple of them. Just model it out (prefferably in high poly so you really pay attention details) and maybe even do some background research on how rifles actually work. This will help you gain a much greater understanding of rifles and make it easier to come up with concepts that look realistic too.
Maybe to continue on what Tobbo said above:
- The trigger in the buttstock: I have never seen a rifle with the trigger far from the firing mechanism, probably because it just makes it easier to make. In all guns the trigger is in front of the grip so it's easy to fire. I have no clue how I would have to hold your rifle and still shoot.
- Big hole in the middle of the rifle: Why? That place of the rifle usually contains the firing and loading mechanisms with under it a gap to attach the magazine. I can't even see where at your rifle you would load the bullets.
- Your barrel actually also looks quite strange. How exactly would the bullets go from the magazine into the chamber? The chamber is the place where bullets are loaded to to then be fired. This is usually right behind the barrel. On your model I guess the most logical place would be right above that big gap you have in the middle but the gap blocks this off.
- I guess technically its possible to mount the flashlight on top of the rifle but this is never (as far as I know) done. If you think about it, the long end of the rifle in front of the flashlight would block off quite a bit of light and create a big shadow over the floor. If you then want to look at something on the floor if it were dark you would have to really aim down a lot.
Flashlights are usually mounted near the end of the barrel for that reason, the cone of light can then cover much more area. The top of the rifle is always used to aim through (either iron sights or a more advanced scope) and thats why people usually dont mount anything else on top of the rifle since it could block your view. So putting a scope on top and the light on the bottom or sides near the end of the barrel makes a lot more sense.
I hope this helps and I'm looking forward to seeing more progress!
