Controling distance, that affects visibility

Hello, everyone.

How to control a distance, which affects the visibility of the object, the quality of textures?
I'm working on a big (as i think) exterior level - i can't see the background stuff from the spawn point. Also, I can't understand, why some far textures are pretty visible, and some (that are next to the visible textures) are transforming to basic color =)
