Polypaint problem

Hey guys I'm in the middle of frantically trying to complete this mutant ninja turtle character for my uni hand in on monday but I've struck a brick wall. It looks fine normally :

But when I go to polypaint, I get this ugly mess. :(

I initially thought it was a problem with my unwrap, turned out that my unwrap had actually gone walkies somewhere along the line but I sent it to max and unwrapped it again. I was hoping this would fix it but no luck.

Has anybody got any idea whats going on?? I really wanna polypaint it, but I guess seeing as the unwrap is fine now I could take it to photoshop and texture it normally.

For polypainting you do not need a UV layout, for the painting itself you paint directly to the high-res mesh. Is this in Zbrush? If you are trying to import a texture in Zbrush keep in mind that Zbrush flips the texture vertically. If you really are polypainting to a high-poly mesh and those things are happening then I'm not sure what's going on...

Thanks for replying, yeah I know you don't need one but I'm baking it all on to the low poly version and I need to hand in my texture sheets as well. My zbrush is fine, I managed to polypaint on an earlier model, but then this occured so I assumed it had something to do with my UVs changing. I can paint on the torso where it looks normal but then for the legs and head it just comes out blank.
Also I don't know if it means anything but this all became really evident after I merged my subtools together.

Looks like you accidently painted some materials onto it while sculpting. If so, select the flatcolor material, make sure the 'M' channel is on (where you find zadd, zsub, etc, or Draw: M), and go to Color: Fill Object.
If it makes the entire model a single color, then all is well. Switch to a shaded matcap (basicmaterial, etc) and you can begin painting.

Then turn off m-channel when you do go to paint and sculpting.

Wow, it worked!! Thank you so much, this is my first character in zbrush so I've been bumping into a fair few noob problems but this means I might actually complete it. Cheers! :)
