Im gona be posting my work up here. I've just started university and am new to the modelling world.I'd love to get feedback and criticism on my work in order to improve. Thanks in advance!
So this is one of my first attempts at modelling the human head, i've been following the tutorial by Micheal Rogers. The reference images are very "anime" however which is making getting proportions difficult. But enough excuses any and all advice on where to start with regards to imroving my modelling skills please!!
Glad to see you posting stuff here Martin I'd say soften out the edge loops around the eyes so they arnt so dense, and just work a little more roundness into the verts around the bridge of the nose.
Giles is right on it, you can get the eye stuff with the normals. I would also add you should work on transitioning the polyflow a little better on the side of the heads (namely above the ear) and into the neck. Nothing a few well placed carrots can't fix
ok so next couple of post are a catalogue of my first attempt to model something proper in Maya( in this case a Land Rover Defender 110), its part of a college project.
Ok so its a long way from perfect, and i haven't baked it down or textured it. this project for me at least was more about really getting a good handle on 3d modelling, and on that front i've learned alot. Any crits or advice on anything you see would be great, thanks
ok so i've been learning the ins and outs of normal maps, diffuse maps, and spec maps and how to put it all together. Below is the results of it tested one of the wheels.
There are seams running inwards towards the center on the tire.Im not exactly sure were they are from as i have painted over all visible seams in mudbox? any suggestions very welcome
Ok so now for some character work i've been doing as well. Again this project has been forcing me to learn so much new stuff that its slow going but extremely rewarding. The character is a form of big game hunter, his prey is a form of giant beetle/insect, his weapons and armor are as such mostly made from the carapace of these creatures. This is naturally all set in a fantasy world.
Below are a sequence of images which include some of my concept work.
EDIT: I DID'NT RESIZE THE IMAGES SO BEWARE THEY ARE BIG :-)
As always Crits and advice very welcome
ok so another art dump incoming.. I've finished the above Bug man character so much i would do differently know that I've done it.. great learning experience.
Some bake errors forced a rethink on the final sculpt as i had little time to work around it i figured it would be both quicker and easier to adapt my sculpt.. not ideal but that is what happens when you don't plan properly and concept with normal maps in mind.. Lesson learned!
Did the re topology.. another learning process! and then textured. Not happy with my textures they were rushed in order to get the project handed in on time. Time management is another one of the major lessons I've learned and worked on during this project.
It really feels like you are trying to study and understand the forms which is awesome!! Keep this up! if you have the time get into the practice of modeling or draw something everyday.. even if its small
