I've run into this problem before. If this is the same problem I'm thinking of, hold the Z key and your viewport camera will go into a sort of "lightspeed" mode. If you do that, you should be able to see the skybox that has been lurking around in the void. So what you do is go into wireframe mode, hold the Z key until you can see the skybox mesh, select the skybox's wireframe, then use the scale tool to scale the whole thing down so that it's back in your scene again.
ah. guess that looks the same as it does in lit mode. :P my bad. and that "lightspeed mode" is the FOV of the camera.. C does the opposite.
ultimately if you want to select the skybox, no need to go through some process like that, just go into your content browser and go to the scene tab and select the only InterpActor that is in the scene.. (which if you havent touched it, will be the skydome)
If the Sky Dome was scaled too large to be seen, the sky would be black, surely?
Have you changed the material applied to the Sky Dome and saved over the default map by accident?
Try searching for 'Sky' in the Content Browser and drag 'n drop one of the materials onto it.
If that doesn't work, try banging your head against the desk.
