Namco - Senior Environment Artist

SUMMARY
Namco’s Afro Team is looking for a senior Environment Artist for their next internal project, an as-yet unannounced original concept. The artist must be skilled in the creation of high-quality, fully-textured 3D environments, and experienced in managing the work of external outsourcing groups. Since this is an original concept candidates will have an opportunity to help define a unique visual style as part of a small and talented art team. For that reason we’re looking for a creative and self-motivated individual who can effectively and visually communicate their ideas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work directly with the Art Director to help visualize and develop game environments.
  • Generate high quality artwork within budget and deadline
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Proactively recommend improvements in art standards and productivity
  • Keep informed on current industry trends and technical advancements
  • Participate in new product development and set artistic look across all level art
  • Provide technical leadership to less experienced artists
  • Work closely with outsourcing art groups to maintain the high standard established by the internal team

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
  • A high level of recognized artistic achievement within the games industry (or other relevant industry)
  • Experience in creating high-quality 3D models and textures for use in video games
  • Extensive expertise in 3D graphic software packages (preferably Autodesk Maya)
  • Expertise in high-poly modeling/normal-mapping using tools such as Zbrush
  • PS3 or Xbox360 development experience or equivalent experience with cutting-edge real-time graphics.
  • Experience in creating concept art to describe and help define the visual style of environments
  • Skilled in the creation of 2D textures
  • Significant knowledge of art fundamentals: Drawing, Color theory, Composition, Design, Art history
  • Ability to analyze factors and exercise judgment to determine appropriate steps to take in development

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s or Associate Degree in Fine Arts or equivalent is preferable. An amazing portfolio of professional work is even better.
