Hard Edges and Beveled Edges. Which to use where?

Hey all! Well, I have been wondering about this. I personally have grown to learn to always use hard edges. Where I used/use to show my models, always was suggested to add more hard edges, but little did I read about beveling edges, thus, I learnt to only use hard edges on my models. Not long ago when I discovered these forums, I was stunned as people mostly used beveled edges and the models looked so much better, so I turned my modeling ways and dumped the hard edges. But thinking of it, I don't think they are un-useful either are they? I still do use hard edges on some of my models where I think beveled edges are really not necessary. So, the question is, where and when to use hard edges and where and when to use beveled edges. However, I do know that it effects quite alot on normal map baking. But I do want more clarification on this so that in feature, I know better and may advise other people on this same particular subject :3
