Hey!
Starting a new sketchbook!
I'm a game art student that wants to learn and improve.
The sole reason for setting this up is so I can receive comments and criticism from other artists, I know for a fact this particular forum is full of talented people.
To start things off Im posting some finished work. Future plan is to post WIP projects somewhat continuously.

2227 Polygons. Color w. baked occlusion and normal map is 1024px.
The fact that I have been playing Skyrim a lot lately might have affected my choice of subject
Practicing high-low poly modelling and normal mapping. I will begin transferring the high poly version to a normal map as soon as the low poly is done, doing everything inside Maya. Not sure about my workflow though..
My concept is a main character for a handheld console of sorts. Its an ostrich that shoots Laser from its eyes! He is mad tired of all the other birds flying around, mocking him for his useless wings, so he shoots them down, one by one, while running in a fast paced platform based game.

Maya viewport, no lights, unfiltered texture. 500 tris
Here he is:
Modeled it from scratch inside Zbrush using Z-spheres, made a lower-poly cage around that and baked the normals inside Maya.
5886 tris
One of the rendered branches that was used for the planes
Anyway, it will be very interesting to see the finished environment with the surprise element! Would also love to see you do a rocky environment in the future
