I am currently working on a scene for my portfolio. Its a sciFi/future military base that has been abandoned and is now being overgrown by the surrounding vegetation. Although the inhabitants have left there are still a few drone ships that continue to run their perimeter defense.
Here are a couple assets I am working on. These are loosely based on concept art by Nick Carver and Also some stuff from Paul Richards. These are screen grabs from within Max using 3Point Studio's view port shader.
I am planning on adding emmisive lighting to the front lights as soon as it goes into UDK. I also think changing the tubes to a different color would be a good idea, i just cant decide on what. Also I believe I should change a few metal accents to a darker metal. Please let me know what you think.

For the crate, when I first looked at it something seemed a little off with the proportion. I think maybe the large screws and the size of the radius on the corners are messing with the perception.
I love the texture work on the rusty scratched paint. Maybe you could share a link/tutorial on how to achieve the effect?
Edit:
On further inspection I think I know whats throwing me off. The border between the orange bevels on the front and the body of the crate makes them seem like they don't fit together. I realize you probably have a UV seam right there, but if you could run a scratch or two across the border or maybe a patch of dirt that fits seamlessly across the border it would help blend them better.
Maybe I will intensivy the already existing AO. Yeah the metal should pop a bit more once I get it into UDK and build its material.
As far as the screws, I intentionally made them large like that but I do see how it looks really awkward. I will reduce the size and maybe put four on each panel instead of two. I will also redo the front orange droor because you are right, the transition between pieces is too harsh.
As for the texturing I am still playing with a mixture of techniques but almost all techniques are similar to the tuts found in the Polycount WIKI under texturing tutorials.
Aslo I was looking at the crate, do you believe I should get rid of the wheels?

As I posted before this is a WIP and only has a AO and basic normal applied
Hmmm. Damage in the textures, what do you mean, or is that an attempt at being facetious?
Also, Simplicity please elaborate I would love to here any suggestions you might have.
Heads Up- The control Pillar will have 3 screens, one a holographic touch screen that hovers in the empty void at the center. The two top inlets will be occupied by display screens. This will all happen later in the workflow once it is textured and ready for UDK where I can throw some sweet materials at it. But I figured I would get some feedback now before I forge ahead.
Thanx yall!

Clean bakes! Good work!
Update: here is a texture for the door I am working on, I am sticking with the whitish orange/blue color scheme for a lot of the assets in this scene, I want them to have a Starwars type feel. I added these recessed orbs in the corner of the door I would like to use them as part of the design on a few of the wall pieces and this door, but i dont know what to do with them. I might just get rid of them. Maybe they could pulsate a glow... I don't know.
EDIT got rid of the grey orbs embeded in the corners.
