Monitor advice

Its been about 9 months since I saw a specific monitor thread on the forums, as I am looking for a new purchase I thought id open up the discussion for all the lovely new tech that's been released over the last half year :)

Here are my current choices / favorites:

IPS screens:

Dell U2311H 23"- £250
Dell U2412M 24" - £290
Iiyama ProLite X2377HDS 23" - £170

Non IPS

Iiyama ProLite 24 inch - £150
Possibly a Samsung equivalent :)

I think £300 is the upper end of my price range. Is a £300 Dell really twice as good as two £150 iiyamas? I work full time as a Character artist so colour / contrast etc is very important to me! Id appreciate some advice.

Dell makes super awesome screens. Fact. Been rolling with them for ages. Currently got a small 24 cheapo dell and "recently" upgraded my main monitor to a 27" one. Of course it's a bit more expensive than you're willing to put down. I got mine in a sale however, maybe there's another one soon?

It's so big i hardly ever use my second monitor and for colors/contrast it's pretty awesome aswell. Maybe it's something worth looking into?

Good words all around for this bad boy.

An IPS, E-IPS, M/PVA etc panel to me really is worth it. You can go cheap and get two TN panels, but you get what you pay for. If you're really worried about money, get one good panel and one cheap TN panels. I really wouldn't suggest investing much money into TN panels, you'll just get sick of it and want to replace it in the near future.

Even picking up a cheap used TN or something to tide you over until you can afford a second E-IPS screen would be an excellent idea. TN panels suck for color and viewing angles, and to me, are really bad for doing any sort of art. For doing art I would say a quality panel is easily 2x better and very much worth the cost, a cheap panel is fine for browsing the web or whatever but I wouldn't want it for work.

    I would suggest Dell's U23/24 series.

I'm still in love with my Dell U2311H. Got it when it was first released. Color/contrast seems to be pretty excellent.

I was afraid to switch to a LCD from a CRT because of fears over color/contrast issues. Now I'm glad my CRT finally died and I was forced to move on to better tech.
