On the left you see my texture in photoshop, high passed and even with the contrast lowered -50 twice I think.
On the right you see the texture imported into CE3 and painted onto some terrain. Its actually from the map that comes with the engine, all I did was replace the texture of one of the materials that was already there and change the color to match the leaves as closely as possible. One of the materials created by crytek.
Why the hell is CE3 bumping up the contrast so much!? Do you see any of those stark shadows on my texture? If I'm to deal with the way this engine approaches textures like this can anyone link me a tutorial on how to appease this wacky engine's craving for odd textures?
I've had enough trouble figuring out how to blend smoothly between layers and its STILL trial and error. I'm at my wit's end.
I get the same issues with making terrain textures that have more than one color. If the only way to make a texture look at all decent is to make it almost greyscale with a high pass and then add a single color later once it's in the engine, how am I supposed to make a texture with more than one color? For instance a texture of rocks with moss on them.
Please help, thank you in advance anyone who can.

Try to avoid textures that have very different color ranges, and try to put that color variation into the background texture.
