All the software I use has its own font generator : type text > pick font from list

It's actually pretty cool for viewing fonts, and even gives you code to integrate them into your website, if you need it to.

Font Studio. It's originally made to export fonts to Ogre, but it offers a really simple API for writing exporters to any format.
We're using it at work and I wrote the dll to export to our own format and it works wonderful!
