i was looking at vitaly bulgarovs stuff and got inspired this weekend to do somethign similar to his latest tech busts hes been making, so this is what i got done this weekend
This is looking good so far, I will be following this one. Also i did have a look at your portfolio site and you have some awesome work going on especially the mech suit which is my favorite. Just wanted to ask a question that did you create it all in 3ds max or maya or did you use mike jensons approach by creating it all in zbrush.
thanks guys!
fuzzio: thanks!! the mecha suit in my folio, i think you're referring to the stealth mech? that is all 3ds max
plyczkowski: thanks! and yeah the head created in his 3d design for production is definitely one of the driving factors here. im sure if you google him you can find all his links :P
TylerFluharty: thank you sir~ yeah its all 3ds, in graphire tools there is a checker selection mode that selects every other poly and after that its very easy to just bevel the holes
cleaned up a couple areas, still need to add detailing to the wires and sculpt the body but its moving along, messed with some zbrush render tricks for an hour got this
thanks guys!!! really made me want to finish this one quicker, so im pretty close to done w/it
computron, i tried to here, hopefully i did :P?
alberto, yes its suppose to be that kinda i think? ha
thanks makecg and fred!
Good work on the eyes, but maybe try doing some cool colored gloss maps and fresnel. that way you can get sepperate colored specular highlights falling off realistacally like this:
Notice how the glancing angle changes color?
Beatle shells do this as well:
Your character's silhouette makes him look like an insect and this will punch it up significantly. Maybe some more insect like skin would look interesting, although fly man is an interesting direction.
Ok i have to know how you got that carbon fiber look for the helmet. I've been trying to do it on my soldier guy and been failing. It's alwyas just too reflective to see the carbon fiber under.
thanks wester! i used keyshot for the materials and just played with the settings in there.
thanks benstrasser, dannedadon, and fred2303!
im proly going to do 1 more render with different mats in vray but that will take a bit more time~

is EXACTLY what came out of my mouth.
His has large clean planes broken up by high detail areas. It helps it read a bit better.
