Maya to Max Questions

I am working with some people who are modeling in Maya. They export as both OBJ and FBX and I open it in 3ds max to unwrap and texture.

The model has random black lines covering it and in vertex mode I can see all the vertex for the model and not just the ones facing me. I would like model to show up as normal.

Any ideas or helpful tips?
