Max Workflow Question

Hey all,

I'm working on building a level in UDK, I usually end up hitting wall (often due to other projects, usually school related), but now I have a bit of time to actually work on a level for my portfolio, and I want to do it right. I'm working up a level document, gathering reference and starting some initial modeling. For blocking out and modelling the level, I've got everything matching up scale wise.

My question is what to do with the assets. My thought was to model them all out in individual scenes, and bring them together in one larger level scene. That part, I have no problem with. (And if there's something wrong with this workflow, please feel free to school me) My question is, (and it may be trivial, but it seems like a bigger deal in my head) what to do with the individual asset files? I'd think to stuff them in a subfolder of 'scenes', but is there a 'proper' way to do it? Or is the 'proper' way the easiest for me?
