I'm starting my first personal large scale environment, here is a quick UDK mockup of what I want to achieve.
It's a fortified library on the very top of a rocky mountain, just above the clouds.
On the large landing area, the small cube represents the scale of the building.
A dangerous trail leads the Book Keeper from the library to a large torch meant to guide the sky travelers.
The library is a very large circular room with two floors and a glass dome on top of it. The walls will be covered with books and scrolls of all sorts while the ground will be a giant world map mosaic.
I'll try to update this thread as often as possible.

I've also been refining the main shapes of the building, but nothing really interesting to show on that side.
Here is the first texture that kind of defines the style and colors where I'm heading to for the interiors. It will be mainly lit by torches, fireplaces and holes carved in the rock ceiling.
Everything is pretty much WIP. It took me some time but I finally nailed my snow shader
THe interior is progresing too, I'm still unsure of what I will put in place of the placeholder tree, an old tree of mine or some kind of levitating magical sphere, still thinking...
The next big step is modeling proper rocks instead of the blocky mountain I got in the background and adding details on the walls and mountain, with paths made of wood beam stuck in the rock linking the library with other buildings higher in the mountain.
Also, adding all sorts of props and details

even if there's a chain, it still seems like it would just fall apart in no time.

@Blaisooid. Yep you're right, I might end up adding some strong support beam under it or have the rock fill more space under this part to make it more beleivable.
