Hey, so I'm finally going to bite the bullet and get a ps3 to play a whopping total of 4 games I can't get on the 360 or the pc. After that who knows maybe I'll sell it on craigs list. Anyway, I was wondering does the ps3 natively support my 24" U2410 monitor? I have no idea what cables come with the ps3 so do I need to do anything fancy or can I take it out of the box and use it with my pc monitor if need be?
Hey Malcom, I use my PS3 on my U2410. The cables that should come with the PS3 should be only the RCA video cables (which will connect fine just no HD). Just have mine hooked up with a DVI to HDMI cable.
Is there an official ps3 HDMI cable, my component slot is taken up by the 360 so all I have left on my tv is HDMI. And if I get an HDMI cable for the ps3 to tv connection will it work on my monitor as well?
There's probably an official hdmi cable, but I would suggest buying a cheap one, typically no difference. The cable will also work on your monitor, you won't get sound obviously, but there is a mini stereo output on the monitor that you could connect your computer speakers to.
and you will be fine
It's like m4dcow says; just get the cheapest cable you can. HDMI and DVI are both digital so there's won't be any difference in quality.
Speaking of the sound; the easiest way to do is to get a RCA to jack 3.5mm converter and plug it into your Line-In port. The downside is that your PC will have to be on whenever you want to use your PS3. Alternatively, if your speakers have a a jack input port, then you will be able to plug the RCA to jack converter directly into your speakers.
edit:
I'm a moron, just realised that your monitor has a HDMI input :P
m4dcow, so you are saying if a get an HDMI cable connecting my ps3 to my monitor I can then just plug my speakers into my monitor and everything should work? I have the below speakers, and a USB headset.
It looks like your speakers have RCA inputs which means you will be able to plug in the left and right audio channels directly into your speakers without having to use any converters.
If you don't want an extra cable, you can just plug your computer speakers into the monitor which the PS3 is connected to via hdmi and you will get sound through your computer speakers.
Or you can get a Male to Male Stereo 3.5 mm cable and hook that upto the aux input on your speakers (just under the headphone port) so you don't need to disconnect your speakers from your pc when you want to play the PS3 just plug in that jack.
As for the USB headset, I don't think there is any way to get that working with the setup, unless it happens to be compatible with the PS3 and you plug it directly in. If you had regular headphones you could plug thoses into the monitor's stereo output for sound also.
What i do for sound is use the RCA cable (you can use the RCA cable while using HDMI) and connect the White and Red to a convertor to 3.5mm and plug my Logitech speaker cable to that, only flaw is switching it

If you want to alternate between your TV and a monitor, you can get a regular HDMI cable and one of these: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Unlimited-ADP-3780-Female-Adapter/dp/B0018QTWH2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1319754762&sr=8-3"]Amazon.com: Cables Unlimited ADP-3780 DVI-D Male to HDMI Female Adapter: Electronics[/ame]

I tried this once and don't really like it, HDTV's ftw.
