This is a project I'm doing for class, starting out with a high poly model in 3DS MAX, and eventually reducing it to a low poly, unwrapping it, texturing it, etc.
So here are some shots of my first attempt at the high poly, looking for some feedback.
1 quick question, is the first image supposed to be the reference? its lookin pretty good so far tho. just a couple things. first off, if your intending to bake it into a low poly and texture, dont forget that you dont want to pinch your edges to much because the bake wont read sharp corners very well. and secondly, even though you have re-inforced edges, the piece itself looks kinda plain. on the 2 main cyclinders, try creating some rivets, and adding extra geo to make it really stand out!
Yes, the first image is a reference. It's actually a little different, but it's pretty damn close, same model. Which edges in specific are you referring to if you don't mind telling me?
I am going to start on the low poly here in a few days, so now is the time for improvements!
ok got ya, well im not currently on a computer that has photoshop so i cant bring your image up and show specifically but ill try to explain the best way i can the hexagonal cyclinder that is to the left of your two main cylinders, are very tight edges, might wanna smooth them out, at least from the angles your showing... and like said before, try adding more detail to the piece as a whole. the reference shows alot more edges and geometry that you can definitely add to make it more of a stand out piece. look forward to checking your progress!
