So when I have edges selected in the viewport and try to navigate the viewport the edges flicker red and white. Making it very hard to view what edges I have selected. Anyone experience this or know how to fix this? I have tried googling this and searching the forum. But the only thing I have seen is people having issues with Dx10.
The edges display fine when I view them in wire frame, but if I try to view them with the faces also showing is when I have problems.
And on a completely unrelated subject. I understand padding is important and the more the better. But when actually packing the UVs in the 1:1 box how do you tell what padding you are actually putting in so you know when you bake that you won't have overlap and can be most efficient with the texture space?

You'll get used to it. Once you start packing, with the mindset of 8px of padding, you'll get used to eyeing the space between your islands pretty easily.
Although it's strange, I thought Max packing has improved and you could automatically tell it how much padding you need and it would pack it pretty well.
They do have an auto-pack feature that will set up padding for you, but then again it is an auto-pack. You have no real idea where they put anything. And I have tried to use it just so I can get an idea of the kind of padding I need, but around some islands it seems to put a lot more padding then others, and that didn't seem right to me.
Thanks
