MAX2012 Peeling & "hard" objects

Hey guys, I just wanted to ask a quick question regarding Max 2012's new Peel tool. Namely, how viable a tool is it when unwrapping "hard" objects (eg. weapons, appliances etc.)?
Edit: Another btb question: the mousewheel scrolling on 2012 appears to be somewhat temperamental, is there a fix for this?
