Illustrator CS5 - new brush strokes suddenly being sent to the back?

so i'm trying out some freehand vector drawing in illustrator cs5 using the blob brush. All been going fine, until suddenly all my new brush strokes are automatically being sent to the back. I guess i must have hit something, but i don't know illustrator well enough to have any clue what. Any ideas?
