UDK animation importing issues

For the past week or so, I've been trying to learn the basics of importing animations into UDK. I've followed some tutorials and spent plenty of time tinkering, and I've finally hit a wall. I made a basic first person test animation for testing purposes, but whenever I import it into the animset editor it comes out flawed. Both individual arms appear to have their bones animating correctly in a relative sense, but the shoulder bones (top of the hierarchy for each arm, linked to a common root bone) are at the incorrect location. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Can anyone advise me?
