I turned my maxscript Subdivision Reversion into a c++ modifier plugin. It is a lot faster and is also able to reverse just the current selection.
I plan to make it reverse a mesh by angle. Where you have flat surfaces it will reverse and where you have round surfaces it will not.
Here is a video of in action. If you have any features suggestion I'm open to anything.

It will be a paid upgrade for existing users of Subdivision Reversion. I haven't decided yet on the amount.
