JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:- The Lead Environment Artist oversees the development of run-time game environments by a team of environment artists. Partners closely with the Art Director, Project Lead, and Producers to address all issues related to the creation of environment art.
- Responsible for Leading the output of environmental assets and for maintaining the aesthetic and cohesive vision for the game
- Work with Engineering to push and innovate on the technical quality bar for the Modeling team.
- Model and Texture game-ready assets using 3DS Max
- Works closely with the Art Director to establish the aesthetic and technical standards for environment art on the project and make sure it is ready for game-play
- Visual and technical understanding of 3D modeling & texturing of low poly hard surface environments
- Quickly build complex organic meshes and hard surface environmental and prop models
- Resolves timeline and artistic discrepancies promptly and professionally with the Lead Artist and the Production team.
- Communicates technical guidelines for environment art creation and runtime implementation to the team.
- Oversees the work of the Environment Artists on a daily basis, effectively communicating art direction, as well as delivering constructive feedback to work in progress.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Proven track record as a Lead Hard Surface Modeler or Lead Environment Artist on at least 2 successfully-published game titles, participating in development from concept to ship
- Previous production experience or exceptional artistic skills/abilities in CGI/traditional artwork
- A thorough understanding of 3-D computer programs such as 3DS Max
- 5+ years of computer gaming or related field, creating run-time environments. A significant contribution as a modeler / texture artist on at least 2 gen3 platforms strongly preferred.
- Ability to model in Sub Ds and/or Polys using Maya and or Max
- Previous experience with traditional 3D sculpting a plus
- Strong knowledge of anatomy a plus
- Scripting (MEL, PERL, CSH) background a plus
- Strong problem solving skills and a good eye required
- Proven ability to be detail oriented and to work efficiently within a production environment
- Must be able to work in a collaborative environment, taking direction
- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience desired
