THQ San Diego is seeking a full time Principal Technical Artist.

Responsibilities:
• Work with Technical Art Director on art processes and tools required to develop AAA sports fighting game.
• Help lead Art Dept. to deliver at the highest visual quality bar.
• Work with Art and Engineering Depts. to create new techniques, assess risks and provide solutions for art development.
• Performance testing to help create optimized and efficient artwork .
• Effectively communicate technical and artistic ideas with team members, verbally, visually and with documentation.
• Create documentation and training media for team.

Requirements:
• Self motivated with the ability to drive others.
• Expert knowledge of common digital art authoring tools including 3DS Max, Photoshop, ZBrush.
• Familiarity with all current digital art creation techniques including modeling, texturing, shaders, etc.
• History of developing optimal skeletal and facial systems, including rigging and weighting.
• MaxScript, Mel or Python scripting experience.
• Extensive knowledge of Unreal Engine/UDK.
• Lighting theory and techniques
• Familiarity with particle and other effects systems.

Bonus Skills:
• History working with crowd systems.
• Shader development experience, especially with current techniques for accurate skin surface simulation.
• Shipped at least one game with UE3.
• 8-10 years in the game industry.
• Traditional art skills.
