LOD mesh elements ordering

hello, i'm working on an object where i need 2 materials to always be the same order in the LOD elements when i import them from maya into unreal. I seem to some times be getting the materials muddeled up. i wanted to ask if unreal uses the name or the shadergroup or some thing to determin which order the materials come into the LOD elements.
