Calling this done.
Original Concept here:

I believe it was done by M.C. Barret.
High res mesh was made out of a simple zsphere armature, diffuse texture was painted pretty much entirely in 3DS Max Viewport Canvas, it's a lot more powerful than I thought it was (though I really hate opacity buildup)
I felt like it needed a tail cause the design was very front heavy, and the face/feet reminded me of a triceratops so I gave him a stubby triceratopsish tail.
Not much else to add except it feels good to finally have finished something heh

edit: and by color variation, I mean color intensity of the brown back.
Only thing that "bothers" me is the white tusks/teeth. I think a slight yellowish color on the teeth and a bit of a brownish gradient on the tusks (like the sketch has) would have made the tusks feel a bit more real. But I'm nit-picking.
Good job!
However, I still think it lacks high-frequency detail (esp. evident on shot with rear legs) Some noise, dirt, pores, scratches - nothing too intense, but enough to suggest that you are using whole potential of diffuse map and there are no areas where it's just flat color.
Does anyone know for sure who did the original concept? Would like to credit them appropriately, and not continue making an ass of myself if it wasn't actually M.C. Barret.
@michael_Curtiss Did a subtle color burn pass on his back but I might add more orange tones, I'm pretty sure the thing is going to be reasonably large most of the time, I can't imagine they'd have put a 7500 polygon / 1024x3 map budget on a small creature. Even (relatively) small I think it holds its own (included a small turnaround in the original post)
@Sandro I'm hesitant to add pores and more scratches as I wasn't really going for a realistic microdetailed model, I tried to address the blurriness in the colors though.
Thanks everybody for the comments and feedback!
And yes, Matt did do the concept.
Size wise he's probably about the size and scale of a pig? MAybe? He's not huge. Check out his anatomy. poly/texture limits are sort of mixed up wiyth the character budget.
Guess I should have posted for input sooner, ah well.
Much thanks for the feedback!
