This is a practice art test I'm doing for a class. I'm not terribly far along, but I wanted to get an idea of whether I was doing things right. Is it typical to have lots of separate elements? Is it better to be one connected element?

I still want to add doors and windows, and I'd love some ideas for what to do with the base.
Dude try using Imgur, you can upload the images really quick and just post a link on here.
The other one with reference is the same general vein from one angle only, and is missing most of the character in the reference piece. I didn't actually realize that you were going for the building in the reference image for a bit. Try to get some of the curves in the roof and other parts of the building where they belong.
