Environment-WIP , C and C

Hi, this model was done quite some time back ago, and i am trying to do some lightning for the scene. I have been playing around with the lights but have not settled on any yet.

I am thinking of doing a Morning, Afternoon and Night lighting for the scene. Below are some of my WIPs, do comment.

And does anybody have some great reference sites for good lightning? I am quite keen on making this look good, i currently feel that my lightning does not justify the whole scene yet.

It's really noticable that the proportions/scale is off everywhere. Steps, windows, doors, barrels, crates, tires, fences.

Right now it feels like you should take one step back, making sure everything is scaled correctly, place a human in there. Then start referencing market-photos that you like, how they set stuff up and some with a nice composition. Then re-arrange the scene and then focus on lighting.

Aside from the scaling... All the props seemed to be randomly picked from scenes of different genres. Construction, junkyard, city, market place, highway, and a pirate ship. There doesn't really seem to be a thought process behind what objects were put in the scene. It all feels chaotic in a way. And not because everything is strewn about.

Did you go off of any reference? Might try researching what kind of props would go into a market place scene. Because I think even if you nail the lighting it is going to be confusing as to what place we would be viewing.

I think, before worrying about lighting an entire environment, you need to step back a bit. Your modeling and texture are not up to par to current standards, they feel like early-90s stuff.

I suggest you pick 1 object, for instance the fruit stall, and focus on only that object, and then later start worrying about scenes. Start making a stall from scratch, post WIPs here often, get lots of feedback and make it kick ass.
