This is my first thread here and i would like to use it for posting my progress in improving my hand painted textures.
My plan is to make a bunch of smaller probs and hopefully see the quality improve over time.
I am in the process of making a dagger with a hand painted texture in a WoW like style. I am a little stuck right now so if anyone have any crits or tips that would be great.

its a good start but i would get rid of the black at the bottom blade and maybe lighten up the dark grey of the blade it self and also some slight color on the blade would do good too. here is a example how u could do it http://3docean.net/item/simple-short-sword-03/223347

The lighting isn't that consistent on the blade itself. Highlights on one side, shadows on the other. Stay consistent and pay attention to the details!
The handle could use something a bit more intricate instead of just flat wraps. Think of something with more depth and unique design.
I improved the silhouette as suggested, and made it a little simpler for myself to unwrap/texture.
And ty Next for pointing out my lighting flaw it helped a bunch.
