new foliage system

Is there any preparation needed for meshes that are dragged into the new Foliage window? I know old foliage had certain charactaristics that allowed for better performance, like foliage wouldnt cast shadows or something along those lines. Cuz I have noticed when in the static mesh editor there is a "Foliage Default Settings" option, should this be messed with prior to adding a mesh to the Foliage window, or are there other settings I need to check?

    You should be alright, the foliage system is just a means of spraying on different meshes in a varying density from what I have seen, its up to you whether you want them to have different settings on or not. As a rule I try and duplicate the same settings used by the pre-made assets for my own. I assume that whoever made them has a much better understanding than me of the unreal engine seeing as its in the build already. Though saying that I have seen some stuff on their that seems a bit over the top for a game asset.
