Oh shi.... massive addict. I best not make any plans for 2012 then. CS 1.6 was one of the main reasons I fail college the first time round and CS source nearly cost me my job at one point, it was a rubbish job though.
I used to love getting owned over and over and over again for hours/days on end. But when you get that round with 5 kills and a defuse....its soooo worth it.
Focus on 5v5 is good but I did prefer the big 64 man servers with custom maps -=VIA=- was my favourite haunt.
Hope they add the illusive Frag kill, never got one but I did witness one once.
Played some CS:S yesterday after a years gap. Still great as a pure online FPS. The new one should be fun, hopefully no hats :P.
Stinger, what's an illusive Frag kill?
They seem to have a genuine and sincere interest in making a game ready for prime time e-sports
good so far... let's just hope it doesn't get too consolized what with the additional weapons, matchmaking, odd grenades etc. there really needs to be a new e-sports fps now that cod is primarily a console series and quake live, 1.6 and css are all dead.
I doubt Valve will make a shitty fps. I'm not sure if xservers between consolers and pc gamers would work though but oh well, if someone can pull it off I guess it's Valve.
I'm super excited by this. Finally a new competitve fps! Q3 and cs 1.6 are the only two balanced games I can think that dominate the scene now. Fingers crossed they dont balls it up.
hope it fun kinda disappointing by the new visuals
I think the environments are fine, but the humans, and especially the hand/gun animation/placements is very 1990's and ugly... I guess thats so the competitive gamers don't complain about visual distractions? Still pretty unusual for the game not to have at least MW2 level graphics, considering how beautiful Portal 2 was.
WOW. I had forgotten the existence of the gun game for the past decade. Oh man I miss it now.
As far as that preview video, I'm a bit disappointed with the graphics and animations. You'd think they would have gotten a bigger step up in quality, but I'm not seeing much. Half Life 2 felt more solid graphically than what I just saw and that is one old game.
I think I also would have liked to see a some new gameplay mechanics like going prone or climbing over obstacles a la brink, but I can understand why they're not changing much of anything what with the CS fanbase.
It's a buy for me in any case. I miss CS and would like a refresh.
CS:S I'll agree with, but 1.6 has more major international (and strongly sponsored) tournaments than basically any other competetive game. It isn't remotely dead.
damnit ign agegate fail no cs:go video for me yargh
Nevermind. forgot use foolish usa date order. meh looks alright probably will buy it unless they try to charge full price
Boring? Really?
Don't really understand the CS:S hate. Been playing CS 1.6 for a long time, but I do think CS:S is superior. The gameplay is a bit slower and sometimes not as clinically precise as 1.6, but its nonetheless a great online FPS.
And its far from dead. Loads of servers always full of people playing. Also CS:S has international championships going strong. Main WGC is CS 1.6, but loads of smaller ones do CS:S
The trailer is a bit cheesy, but still looking forward to it. TF2 though has been my main online FPS game for a while.
I think anyone who played the earlier versions of Counterstrike will know that it's not about the graphics. If 1.6 was as active as it used to be, then I'd still prefer it over any other online FPS game.
Also, I'd like to have sexual intercourse with the creator of the Dust maps. He's at Splash Damage I believe.
I'm not convinced that having pc and console gamers matched up in the same servers is a good idea. Also if it's going to be released on consoles what price is it going to be? The default £40-50 range for only multiplayer?
As much as I like CS I might not buy this, because if theres one thing the game requires it's a pristene internet connection, and I get a lag spike everytime I turn a corner.
Wow horribe Mapping! (Outdated level design, Poor Bsp placement, L4D prop assets(looks like))
Dust still feels like you are playing within a box, not in a world. ( but oh we added stair access to underpass!)
I'm a massive CS / CS:S fan but this looks like a very lazy attempt at a nice reboot.
Hoping this is all placeholder art, to boost hype.
I feel the same way, they took the blocky BSP and just added a new layer on top of it. I would have tried to bring more realism into them and some newer fresher artwork.
I do agree that this is a bit lazy and blocky modeling, mapping. Though I think they had to take into account that this is a hardcore (I guess) online FPS, so the levels can't be overly complex with crazy shaders, models etc.
Also CS community doesn't like changes, hence they're playing 12 year old game even now.
What the hell? It looks exactly the same as CS:S....
My thinking behind the game is as follows:
CS:S is getting on a bit now. It's been out since like 2004, and it's seen as an 'old' game now. It seems Valve are just re-vamping the graphics (albeit very slightly) and calling the game new again just to keep their player base. Correct me if I'm wrong!
Jesus Christ I hate the animations in that game and how choppy it looks and feels, even in slow mo, one second is there, in the other is performing a different animation and shifting the character. One of the biggest reasons I never got into CS1.6.

Awesome news with this... odd bit tucked in.

But you can play all new CS: Mario mods....
Stinger, what's an illusive Frag kill?
BUT...
What really can they add or update other than the visual fidelity of the game itself?
oops..sorry. Wrong term. I meant Flashbang kill.
I think if you throw a flashbang at someone and hit them with it. It does 1HP damage. So if the player has 1HP you kill them.
Matchmaking?
CS:S was a HUGE let down for me. I played CS 1.6 since beta .2. Damn near 9 years? of serious CS gaming. I was extremely upset with how CS:S felt.
EDIT: oh...did i make that Has big, and red, and bold...dunno how that happened :P
I jump on CS:S every once in a blue moon.. still dominate, still fun.

this is why i retain my skepticism.
I also don't want a shitty console port...

In my pants.

Valve are making some unusual choices these days.

and whine they will, because they will never have suffered as large an asskicking as they will in that situation... rape is an understatement.

In fact, it has the second largest prize purse behind Starcraft 2 at ESWC this year ...
