looking for software. help

my art director tells me abt this software he used a while back abt 2-3 years ago. It was basically a 2D painting program where you drew a line, and it would draw crazy patterns along that lines path. It would also have some cool things with symmetry and such.
Does any one know that name of this software? (he forgot the name too).
