Hey all, it's been a long time since I posted any work. I've been working on this bust on and off for the past few months and I plan to print it by end of the year. I'm looking at something that's around 6 to 8 inches tall so it's going to be pretty chunky.
Still left with a lot of work on this guy, the basic design is there and I probably need a few more passes to finesse it some more. I also have to make sure i don't go random detail all over and balance the surface contrast on this one (thanks pior)
As always, all CnC welcomed.
Update:
I've finally printed this bust. Scroll down to check the images.

love what you guys are doing over at Blizzard, I watch or play SC2 everyday
Jessica- Thanks!
Tadao- I understand what you mean. I did my best to distribute the detail so that there would be some "breaks" in all the detail. When it's printed, I doubt the detail is going to stand out much though. We'll see.
Jungsik- thanks man.
Dan- huge fan of guyver!
jordan- cool! I'm gonna do some research and figure if I can get this printed at 1/4 scale at a decent price.. it's going to be hard though.
coots7- Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you're rocking SC2. I wished I had the courage to play more on ladder :P. Exposed brain because of Takeya's work. He's human deep down with alien tissue/carapace mutating on him. Umm so yeah..brains for ears because I think it's cool! ha
Teriyaki Style- thanks bud.
I spent more time on this model. Finally have it posed, I am done with this guy although I know over the next week I will find reasons to tweak him more. Here are the final shots. Thanks for the comments!
Funny thing, looking at the first image of your latest post, the first image of the pose, his facial expression actually makes him look symphatic. Looking at the the others, he has a bit of a grunky look.
Abs, back, and face are fantastic, brain ears is a bit weird, but you make it work.
Tadao- going to do a 4-inch test print. in fact it's already on its way. I'll upload pics when i get the test print .
shrew81- yeah brain ears. thanks for the kind words.
dustinbrown- thanks.
SCB- thanks, glad u like brain ears. :P
Zpanzer- yeah the first pic he wasn't posed yet, the facial expressions are neutral. The final pics i spent more time tweaking his facial expressions and posture.
sketch- thanks dude!
So I should receive the 4 inch test print in a week or so. I'm doing this test to check the forms of the bust before committing to a 6-7 inch print. Hopefully I don't have to rework too much of it. As for material finish, i'm thinking of going a neutral grey tone with a slight glossy finish (like wax?). I might have to do the glossy finish on my end though, we'll see. Once again, thanks for all the kind words.
any thoughts on painting him?
Sa7aN- thanks dude.
There's a shot of it in my hand too to give you guys a sense of how big this thing is. I have fairly long fingers and the bust feels like a nice size, I lost quite a bit of detail due to the size and might consider printing a larger one to capture more of the details in my original zbrush sculpt.
Thanks for looking.
Any special considerations to getting a model printed?
TeriyakiStyle- Probably would. Not sure about sculpting on it, i think it should be fine since the whole bust is made of resin.
darbeenbo- yeah, even if it didn't capture as much detail as I wanted. It still feels pretty damn good to hold it in your hands. I have it on my desk to remind myself to keep up with my personal works (doesn't always work. LOL)
Jessica- thanks!
Maph- thanks m8!
Tadao- ownage.com
spacemonkey- thanks dude, you of all people should definitely get your sculpts printed.
thankupon- none taken thanks.
