When modeling characters, do you unwrap the low poly model first and then create the hi poly using zbrush or other modeling programs, or do you make the hi poly right after the low poly and unwrap the hi poly?
depends on the person some people model the LP first and base there HP off it and some will do there HP first and make a LP to fit, and what i tend to do is kinda makes a medium poly first, that carries my silhouette that i can add details to to make my HP and optimize to make my LP.
there is not set workflow on which one comes first as long as it works in the end and you use your time effectively it is fine.
and about hte unwraps.
you almost will never need to unwrap the high poly since it's detail is projected onto the LP which does need to have UV's.
