Hey folks, I'm working on the tumbler from Chris Nolan's Batman films. I know its been done many times, but I really enjoy it so I'm doing it anyways. As always critiques and commentary are always welcome!
btw folks, I'm transitioning from soft to max, so I'll let you know how that goes, I'm sure you'll probably see it in the car screenshots I'll be posting from hereon in.
a pitty nobody posted yet!
just wanted to give you a thumbs up...
not muhc to cruit right now, as it got so many parts its a little chaotic right now. but i guess that'll go away with textutres applied.
and its not your fault, its the conecpt.
Hey there P, Looking like a good block-out ! I am sure you will be able to grasp Max for modeling. There is a lot more resource available and tutorials on max compared to XSI. And the modeling tools make more sense and are faster and simply superior.
What are you planning on displaying this as ? A game res model ? or a high poly realistic rendering ?
Keep the updates coming. Someone else is working on a tumbler and a similar vehicle. you should look at their threads for reference !
Here's a more detailed front end and nozzle, mind you the front end isn't finished, I'm still working out the details for it, but its in more detail now.
Yea its coming together, however if your doing the high poly. Make sure you build the pieces for subdivision before continuing on. Making sub-divisional pieces free of pinches or errors is not as easy as it seems alot of the time.
But yea keep it up P. Next set of updates I wanna see some mesh's in shaded mode with a turbosmooth on them, to make sure your gonna be able to do your sub-divisional modeling alright.
Here's a fucking shitty ass turbo smoothed thing of the front, it still has a lot more work that I need to do on my end. I finally figured out a few things today though. Just ended up remodeling the game res stuff instead of trying to bring it up to high poly. It saved a lot of time. The fan things on the windows are a bitch.
Hey man, good progress here what i'd suggest with high poly though, espescially on something as intricate as this, is seperate it up into individual pieces for the plates and other sections. Also look at the mechanics of the car, the side wings at the front aren't directly part of the central section, they're plates that move with the suspension.
Also your windows look a bi too bevelled, they go into the car a bit too much. Other than that from the side and front views you've got it looking good as far as the proportions go
Somebody told me that the car is looking like a Fischer Price toy, and so I tried to harden the edges of the car more. Just make it look harder, and more edgish. Is that even a word?
However the 1 thing that jumps out at me, is that the wheels look like metal cylinders. They need to have a more smooth falloff and look more rubber/gummy like, space those edge-loops and get some smooth falloff on there! Aside from that, i look forward to more updates. Keep at it!

You need to attack sub-divisional modeling in pieces and often it requires alot of re-routing edge flow and a good eye for solving geo-flow issues.
