Pretty amazing post I have to say. As a young animator I made the mistake of working in vacuums too. Inside one. Sucking all the dirt from the ground... wait...
I've definitely been in this situation too--thinking that I know all to make an amazing animation and won't show people until the BIG REVEAL when it'll be so awesome and they'll praise my hard work!!--and then I show people and come to realize how shit what I've been working all those hours on is. More and more now I try to get people to see what I'm working on as soon as I think it's ready for some inital critique.
No matter who it is, professional or just a friend, there's nothing like a new pair of eyes to see something that might be off you weren't even thinking to look for!
